Dumbing us down and ripping us off

After the recent Supreme Court ruling, where judges stated parents can’t legally take their children on holiday during term time, without the Head Teacher’s permission, it has emerged that a County Council has raised £21,192 in a year by fining parents who took their children on holiday in school time.

So there is another way, now with full legal backing of the Supreme Court for local authorities to squeeze even more money out of the already downtrodden population.

Tim Browne, Head of Education at Gloucestershire County Council, said:

“Head Teachers continue to have the power to authorise leave of absence, but only in exceptional circumstances.

“If the absence is unauthorised, the school may request that the council consider issuing a penalty notice for the period of unauthorised absence.

Children with poor attendance can be at a disadvantage and this is one way that schools can encourage parents to make sure children attend classes regularly.”

The ruling has provoked mixed reactions from parents.

Vicky Mitchell, a parent from Cirencester said:

“This court ruling makes my blood boil.

“A classroom education is not the only education.

“My kids gain so much from going overseas – arguably more than they might from a few days in class. I would even argue that we kind of home educate our children during our holidays.”

But another local mother, Sarah Davies, stated:

“The ruling has to cater to all children.

“It would be brilliant if all parents planned educational holidays, but the reality is two weeks by the pool / beach.

“Awesome fun, but educational?

“Not so much. There’s also the issue of catching up on work missed.

“Will the parents pick up the slack here, or will it fall to the teacher, to the detriment of the other 30 kids in the class?”

There are thousands of children who are home schooled throughout Britain. Ironically, given the argument that children are educated best in schools, they are often cleverer than those who will now be forced, by law, to attend state schools or face hefty fines.

Does this prove that being forced, under fear of financial loss, to attend Marxist indoctrination centers is not in the best interest of children?

A small amount of research will show anyone who digs deep enough that school is no longer about education, but about forming the minds of youngsters into becoming good followers of the new and evil God – Political Correctness.

It is also interesting to note that those who can afford to educate their children privately are not penalised by this ruling at all.

This is yet another attack by the political elite on hard working families, where the rich can afford to do as they please and the rest of us, yet again, are forced down where they want us; into the gutter.

For further reading on this subject you may wish to read the research gathered by John Taylor Gatto, a quote by him from one his books Dumbing Us Down:

The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling is replicated below.

“I’ve noticed a fascinating phenomenon in my thirty years of teaching:

“The truth is that schools don’t really teach anything except how to obey orders.

“This is a great mystery to me because thousands of humane, caring people work in schools as teachers and aides and administrators, but the abstract logic of the institution overwhelms their individual contributions”.
