1647 was the last time Christmas was cancelled!!!

Tories have announced that they have officially cancelled Christmas pantomimes, the switching on of Christmas lights and even the traditional Nativity school play.

These are just a few of the festivities cancelled. They are even mandating how many of our friends and family members can share Christmas dinner in our own homes – EVEN WHO WE CAN OR CANNOT HUG!

Has a British government ever tried to impose such draconian measures backed up with threats from the police and the army?

Yes – just once before, in 1647 during the reformation!

In 1647, after parliament had won the civil war in England, Scotland and Ireland and our then King Charles was held in captivity, the Church of England had been abolished and replaced by an ultra-fanatical Presbyterian system.

The protestant reformation had restructured churches across the British Isles. Holy days with Christmas included were abolished. It didn’t work out very well.

Following a total ban on everything festive, from decorations to gatherings, rebellions broke out across the country. While some activity took the form of hanging holly in defiance, other action was far more radical and went on to have historical consequences.

Taking up arms and breaking the rules was not just about experiencing the fun of the season. Fighting against the prohibition of Christmas in 1647 was a political act.

Things had changed and the Christmas rebellion was as much a protest against the ‘new normal’ as it was against the banning of fun.

People were fed up with a range of restrictions and financial difficulties that came with the Presbyterian system and the fallout of the civil war – sound familiar?

The rebels carried the day and even the draconian Government of 1647 knew they had gone too far.

For the next 373 years, through plague, through two world wars, and every huge upheaval in our nation’s history, a series of successive governments have never again tried to impose their will onto the Great British people and cancel our most sacred, holy and traditional Christmas… UNTIL NOW!

BNP Chairman Adam Walker told reporters:

“Coronavirus has fast become a tool for massive government overreach, stepping way over the line of acceptability and running roughshod over the civil rights and freedoms our ancestors died for to win!”

“It’s gone way beyond keeping people safe, into the realms of oppression, SO INTRUSIVE STALIN would have been proud of it!

“Even elections have been cancelled this year, our country is built on the democratic model with our rulers always being held in check by the fear of being voted out of office…. But not in 2020!

“With Labour meekly going along with the Tories there is no effective official opposition to this government’s increasingly draconian authoritarian regulations, it’s left once again to the British National Party to champion, uphold and speak out to defend the rights of the British people.”
