The British National Party’s Tina Wingfield is to contest the Labour-held seat of Salford in the forthcoming general election, North West organiser Clive Jefferson has announced.
“This will be one of the highest profile fights in the country and certainly the highest profile General Election battle in the North West,” Mr Jefferson said. “Salford will have one of our top BNP candidates standing against the hated Hazel Blears,” he said.
Mrs Wingfield, 42, is Nick Griffin’s PA and constituency office manager. She holds an honours degree in social science and has trained as a probation officer.
“If there is to be a constituency likely to produce a political earthquake, then it will be Salford,” Mr Jefferson said.
