Newcastle BNP Launches Election Campaign in Style
The British National Party in Newcastle launched its election campaign in style over the past weekend with a table stall in the town centre which distributed over 4,500 information pieces introducing Newcastle Central candidate Ken Booth.
“The day kicked off with a stall at Grey’s monument in the city centre,” Mr Booth, who is also North East BNP regional organiser, told BNP News.
“Leafleting teams covered all the main thoroughfares and within an hour it was really busy as the seasonal Christmas market was set up to the rear and sides of the monument.”
The BNP stall was set up on the plinth facing Blackett Street, which is the main cross-city bus route. “As a result, our stall and elevated banners were highly visible even when the street was packed with shoppers,” Mr Booth said.
“It’s been a while since we held a stall in the city centre and our presence was very well received. We sold 55 copies of Voice of Freedom by 10.00 am, gave away a further 135 and distributed over 4,500 leaflets promoting our campaign in Newcastle Central,” he said.
The stall also signed up several new activists and a couple of dozen people left their details for information packs and a desire to be invited to Newcastle BNP’s monthly meetings.
“We intended to pack up the stall at 12.30pm and go leafleting in a couple of target wards, but the response was so good we decided to stay till 2.30 pm,” Mr Booth added.
“We will be back in the city centre on a regular basis and be working in the suburbs as our ongoing election campaign intensifies,” he concluded.
*Newcastle BNP intends to field a full slate of local election candidates covering all 26 wards and have candidates in all three parliamentary constituencies.
