Bully Brown held the purse strings for flood defences during his long tenure as Chancellor of the Exchequer. He withheld money for flood defences on a personal whim and dislike of his fellow New Labour politician. Now he is reaping the benefit. Let us never forget that the money was always there to help flood victims, to prevent future disasters but Brown wanted his own way. Any victims of recent floods should take this little point up when New Labour come knocking on your door.

when you consider that the hover craft was invented by british inventor sir christopher cockerill many decades ago .it makes me wonder why the emergency services do not have a fleet of small hovercraft on stand by especially if we are meant to believe that our climate is changing

The people of Cumbria have council elections from time to time. It's up to them to get the right people in that have a sense of priority and puts their voters first. Lessons must be learned.

Did they say why they refused help from the Army? They have first class engineers with exactly the same qualifications as civilians. I am in fact amazed, though I should not be, that the government did not immediately get the Army in.

It was 75p and I remember it clearly, because my Dad was sat there almost entired obscured by the purple air that surrounded him. He rarely swears and had Brown had done to him what he suggested, he would never have walked upright again. In fact his ability to father children would have been no more.

We give 6 Billion a year out in foreign aid. Cameron boasts about increaing this to 2% of GDP! Instead of squandering this on India (which has its own space program!), and China – the new superpower – we should be spending it on our own people. Spend this huge sum of tax-payers' money in Cumbria and all the other flood-inflicted areas of our land.

lets not be to harsh on gordon brown as soon as he heard about the floods he was straight off to the north west of england cockermouth[that makes a change he normally has is foot in it] having just discovered the white working class unlike his comment to his friend mr blair when talking about the planning of the aggressive war on iraq he did not say. however much money it takes to fix.; instead he pledged a million pounds to sort out the worst flooding in a thousand years .that should cover a few hot dinners all round then. still it was interesting to hear another elected mp george galloway was off to bangladesh to discover what can be done to help the flood victims there .even thou it is a problem caused by the plates movement that is causing bangladesh to sink into the sea.[there are obviously more bangladeshies in bethnal green then cumbrians].so now all gordon jargon brown can do to make amends is to round up all the polish carpenters and make them make rafts and arks so he can win the migrant and the floating voters over.
