Cowardly Cameron Continues His Fountain of Lies over Lisbon Treaty

November 4, 2009 - By BNP News

COWARD-LIAR-AT-WORKTory leader David Cameron continued with his pathological lying over the Lisbon Treaty today, falsely claiming that he would reverse parts of the new EU constitution — even though all the items he listed either already exist or cannot be done.

Mr Cameron today backed down from his “cast-iron guarantee” that if he became “PM a Conservative government will hold a referendum on any EU treaty that emerges from these negotiations. No treaty should be ratified without consulting the British people in a referendum” pledge which was made in The Sun newspaper of 26 September 2007.

The British National Party was one of the first to point out that if the treaty had been ratified by the time the Conservatives came to power, there could be no “renegotiation” and that the only alternative was to leave the EU.

Today, Mr Cameron admitted that the BNP had been telling the truth all along, but tried to disguise his disgusting dishonesty with a pledge to “negotiate opt-outs” in the charter of fundamental rights, criminal and employment law.

His claims were dismissed as nonsense by pro-Euro members of the European Parliament who pointed out that every single one of Mr Cameron’s “demands” for opt-outs in respect of the charter of fundamental rights and criminal law had already been catered for.

With regard to Mr Cameron’s demand for an opt-out in employment law, the same MEPs dismissed it as impossible. Giving Britain an opt-out in employment legislation would give the UK an unfair advantage in attracting foreign investment and would never be accepted by the other EU members.

All the MEPs dismissed Mr Cameron’s grandstanding as precisely that. “All member states including the UK have ratified the treaty. If Cameron is talking of renegotiating it has little to do with reality and much more to do with election campaigning,” said Martin Schulz, the leader of the EU parliament’s socialist grouping.

Sylvie Goulard, a liberal MEP and the head of the European Movement group in France, said that Mr Cameron’s comments were “window dressing. If you look at what he says, he’s not putting into question Britain membership.”

Pawel Swieboda, a former Polish presidential adviser who now runs the demosEUROPA think tank, pointed out that Mr Cameron made no mention of opting out of European security and defence policy — which means that he fully accepts EU control over the British armed forces as well.

Mr Cameron also ignored two other vital areas which result from the Lisbon Treaty, namely EU control over British immigration and foreign policy.

Mr Swieboda also dismissed as “impossible” Mr Cameron’s call for a British sovereignty bill which would require a referendum on future transfers of power to Brussels: “Future treaties will probably not be possible. We are moving into a situation where this is it,” said Mr Swieboda.

Such a “British sovereignty” law would also bring Britain into conflict with the EU if it were to be used to strike down European Court of Justice rulings.

In other words, Mr Cameron’s con game continues. He has fallen back from one lie to take up position behind another.

Only the BNP has warned about this situation from the very beginning and only the BNP has the political will to do something about it.
