Trevor was born and brought up in York and trained at the Margaret McMillan College of Education (now part of Bradford University) as a student teacher.

While training at college he stood for the British Campaign to Stop Immigration in the Bradford council elections in University Ward, then several years later stood for the National Front in the same ward.

He joined the British National Party in 2006 and stood for the BNP in the York May elections of 2007 and became York BNP group organiser in 2008.
