Principled BNP Councillors Give “Immoral” Pay Rise to Local Good Cause

February 21, 2009 - By BNP News

principled_councillorsPrincipled BNP councillors in Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council were so incensed by the unnecessary pay rises which the Tory and Labour councillors awarded themselves that they have donated the increases to a local worthy cause which helps disabled children ride horses.

Shining example councillor Martyn Findley, already in the news for being the only politician in Nuneaton to support local businesses, announced opposition to the planned pay rises for councillors at a full meeting of the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council last year. Speaking on behalf of himself and fellow BNP councillor Darren Haywood, Mr Findley said that there was no justification for the increase.

Furthermore, Mr Findley pointed out, the council had given the assurance to the public through the media that there would be no pay increase for councillors, as it would add to the tax bill.

“I was shocked therefore to see at a subsequent meeting that the council had commissioned and accepted an ‘independent report’ which recommended a pay rise for councillors,” he said.

“The independent report was accepted by cabinet and brought in front of the full council meeting as a minor item in a sub-section of a cabinet report. As soon as we spotted it we were incensed.  Immoral, duplicitous, and sneaky were the politer words we came up with. Labour and Conservative councillors were conspicuous only for their uncomfortable silence.”

The BNP councillors decided to wait a while for the pay rise to accumulate and selected the Galley Common Riding Centre for the Disabled as a worthy recipient of the money. The riding centre, which relies on donations for its existence, was damaged in recent flooding and needed money to fix their outdoor arena.
