As peak oil becomes a reality, local Government dishes out oil drilling rights to all and sundry, destroying the countryside in their search for black gold. I fear for Britain as North Sea revenue will rapidly dwindle and as far as I can see, during the Thatcher years these precious assets were frittered away, Well Heads open to the maximum instead of carefully harvesting our oil and spreading the revenue over a much longer period - without it where will we be? People do not seem to realize just how serious this situation is going to be and how rapidly it can become a reality. Cuba survived a sort of peal oil situation when the Russian economy collapsed and they stopped exporting crude, they shared transport and turned to Organic farming - but this is not Cuba and we will not run out of oil. What will happen is the price of Crude will start to rise (spike) and this time not ever come down, as ever increasing demand outstrips production. It may be rather slow at first but will become noticeable as the poorer people in our country find it uneconomic to travel and prices of all products start to rise. It is only this economic collapse or credit crunch that will delay peak oil but even then, low oil prices mean much less exploration and development of fields and so less crude being discovered to make up any shortfalls.

Make the most of your hydrocarbons while you can over the next 10 years or so - because unless you are rich, you can kiss your foreign holiday and cheap car travel and associated oil products good bye.
