Bush might not be a liar, but let's rethink the section entitled "War". More likely, he is a committed globalist who really thinks that "something" is hampering the future of the global order. Obama is president now, and what do you think is going to change? We're still in Iraq. We're still in Afghanistan and we're still in Iran. Maybe it has nothing to do with oil? I haven't heard the new administration blowing the lid off the "big conspiracy". Have you? Here's the big secret. The central bankers run the world. Quit hating politicians for being the puppet masters. They are only stooges and salesmen. Hate them for that, or pity them.

Why do you think we need to "Be" in Iraq or Iran to get their oil anyway? Look at how the rest of the world is reacting to our presence in real terms, not rhetorical, and you can see the reality. If the Chinese had even the slightest inkling we were there for the oil, they'd be saying something. Besides, we are spending more money a month occupying Iraq than we would spend to buy a month's worth of oil, by far.

When we entered the computer age, the problem of peak oil was certainly known.

Therefore, it seems silly we've built a world reliant upon computers that need to be plugged into an electrical grid to work.

Oh, and about the effects on immigration. How terribly sad for those desiring to travel to a new homeland in the Western world. I am deeply concerned. What's worse, those already here might want to leave when all the benefits seem to decline.

"Apocalypse" is perfectly correct, however it doesn't mention the added problem of population growth, either from natural birthrate or immigration.
As poulation expands our economy must grow and so too will our need for energy.
Furnaces for smelting metals consume vast amounts of energy, but we need them to produce all our metal-made transport, from cars and bikes to ships and aircraft.
Alternative energy, such as wind power, simply won't cope, and with a growing population even more energy from the 'alternatives' will be required.
The food processing and distribution networks will be first hit, I should think. Panic buying will empty shelves from supermarkets, and the shelves cannot be replenished without the constant stream of huge trucks that clog our motorways. Hungry people will strip the land bare in order to survive.
Apocalypse is the right word, and it is just around the corner.

It's time for British ingenuity to develop a different source of energy : maglev free energy.
Oil dependency is simply a blank check for Elites to blackmail people doing the work.
Elites want monopolies, thereby assuring their continued dominance. Phooey on them.
Let's GO do something else. Half the world's patents are held by the British. So, GET TO
work! Replace oil with free energy. [Shouldn't HM be bankrolling the development of
alternative energy, in the UK? I should THINK so.]

Not very amiably worded, idiot, but it's true stevegray is wrong – a billion a year is a huge overstatement (fortunately). It reminds me of 'inflation psychosis' in Germany in the 1920s, when people might say they were 100 million years old – arithmetical sense got lost.

Good survey of oil and energy and reserves. I doubt whether the BBC has ever produced anything similar depsite their huge funding (billions!).

Even if the oil lasts longer than we think, we still have the world’s population increasing by about a billion a year.
So as the oil diminishes, the carrying capacity of the planet also diminishes.
A huge crunch will take place where billions will be killed off by war or natural disasters especially famine & diseases.

We really need the world population to be falling by a billion a year, but the 3rd world doesn’t want to hear that.
Their intention is to out breed us & then eat us out of house & home like locusts & then….?
They won’t have the technology to go elsewhere, so extinction will probably take place of the human race.
