Charlene Downes murder retrial: Accused acquitted
One story that has slipped through the media net over the last week is that of the dramatic acquittal of the two men charged with the murder of 14-year old Blackpool schoolgirl Charlene Downes.
We quote from one of the few reports available:
“TWO men were today cleared of being behind the disappearance of Blackpool schoolgirl Charlene Downes. Mohammed Reveshi and another man, who cannnot be named for legal reasons, were due to face a retrial.
But charges against the two men were dropped today at Preston Crown Court.
Fourteen-year-old Charlene has not been seen alive since she kissed her mother Karen goodbye at a bus stop in central Blackpool in November 2003.
The case against Mr Reveshi, 50, of Hornby Road, who was charged with disposing of Charlene’s body, and the other man, who was accused of murdering the teenager, collapsed because concerns were raised over the evidence of a key prosecution witness”.
