Welcome to the Conservative Muslim Forum

March 1, 2008 - By Simon Bennett

It may well be that in Wales the Tories are in bed with the Communists, but that pales into almost insignificance where the whole of Britain is concerned. For throughout our great and nominally Christian country the Tories are beavering away to get into bed with the Muslims!

Take for instance the Conservative Muslim Forum to be found here .

This integral part of the Tory Party has a “mission statement” that reads:

“A Voice for British Muslims by working with local constituency associations, councillors and parliamentary candidates, the CMF (Conservative Muslim Forum) is building strong links with mosques, faith schools and local associations to ensure that it accurately reflects the views of British Muslims. The CMF will provide a well-informed and credible voice in the media for the massive majority of moderate British Muslims. A national network of regional branches, a student wing & a business & women’s group.”

And, for the inquisitive Tory mind, it has such useful information as:

“When mentioning lawful food and drink in Islam, there are two words that you will find recurring: Halal and Haram. Halal is an Arabic word meaning lawful or permitted. The opposite of Halal is Haram, which means unlawful or prohibited. Halal and Haram are in fact universal terms that apply to all facets of life.As far as food is concerned, the Qur’an makes it clear as to what is Halal and Haram. Basically, all food is Halal except for the following:

· Meat from swine – pork, ham.
· Pork-based products and by-products – sausages, gelatine etc
· Animals improperly slaughtered, or already dead before slaughtering is due to take place
· Animals killed in the name of anyone other than Allah (for example, by anyone other than a Jew, Christian or Muslim, or as part of a pagan sacrifice)
· Intoxicants
· Blood and blood by-products
· Foods contaminated with any of the above products”

And.

“A note for Muslims in Britain – some fish and chip shops cook their food in pork fat. You shouldn’t eat them, they’re Haram. Some medicines and supplements (especially Cod Liver Oil) also use gelatine as part of their capsules. It can be permissible to use these, but ONLY if there are no suitable alternatives.”

The funny thing is though, although this helpful Tory Party website provides explanations for words such as “Haram” and “Halal” – nowhere can we find mention of other common words such as “Jihad”, “Kuffer”, “Dhimmi” or “Taqiyya”.

Welcome to Cameron’s new, all inclusive, multi-faith Tories! But, we wonder, what exactly are the Conservatives seeking to conserve – other than Islamic culture?
